Rodents (House Mouse, Roof Rat & Bandicoots) are very harmful. They breed rapidly, contaminate food and damage property, clothes other materials. They spread diseases such as plague, leptospirosis, murine typhus and rat bite fever.
Type of Rodents
House Mouse : Smallest of the rodents found in homes, brown to grey in color. It prefer the ground level and can make nests in sofas, upholstery, old files, insulation. Adult mouse 13-20 cm long, head to body length is 6-10 cm, tail length is 7-10.35 cm. Chew everything wood, metal, glass, plastic, etc.
Roof Rat : Slightly larger than the house mouse, dark brown to black in color. It prefers higher areas such as false ceilings and rafters, where it makes nets. Very cautious by nature, it shies away from objects.16-20 cm long with 19-25 cm Long tail and large ears. They will eat practically anything.
Norway/Brown Rat : The rat usually found near sea ports, brown in color, 18-20 cm long with 15-18 cm long tail. It is larger than the house rat and is an excellent swimmer, thriving in sewers and drainage systems beneath cities. Omnivorous and consumes 25-30 gm food daily.
Bandicoot Rat : The largest of Indian rat, it’s found near garbage bins and most aggressive commensal rat, dark greyish-brown,30-40 cm long with equally long tail, weight approx. 1.4kg. It lives in burrows, often excavated in footpath tiles and concreate. It spreads diseases
